About
Ana hails from the beautiful village of Rangiatea, daughter of Tane Tuakana Tiraa and Elizabeth Tiraa and her family connections are: Ngati Tuakana, Marama, Manavaroa, Kaitua and Uritaua. She is an experienced local consultant and environmental expert with over 20 years of work experience in conservation/environmental and management in the Cook Islands and the Pacific region. Her work experience includes project design, implementation, negotiation, monitoring, review and evaluation. Ana is currently involved in species recovery programs and rat eradication (Takutea, Suwarrow islands), and rat control (Takitumu Conservation Area). She is a strong & passionate advocate for Indigenous Peoples. Ana emerged as a pioneering force in developing and implementing the Cook Islands Journey with the GCF and the country's first readiness proposal. Her resilience in the face of international challenges she has experienced throughout her career speaks to her commitment to advancing the Cook Islands’ readiness for climate action.
Ana has been involved in 20+ projects and assignments involving technical, community, administration and management of island natural resources and has authored, or co-authored, 50+ publications and technical reports on resource management.
